Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko on Tuesday visited a Tokyo cemetery where Prince Tomohito of Mikasa, a cousin of the Emperor, is buried, offering prayers at his tomb, the Imperial Household Agency said.

In line with custom, the Imperial Couple did not attend the prince's funeral, called the Renso-no-Gi, which was held at Toshimagaoka Cemetery in Bunkyo Ward last Thursday.

On Tuesday, they were greeted by the prince's 89-year-old mother, Princess Mikasa, and his eldest daughter, Princess Akiko, 30, who served as the chief mourner at the funeral.
