The Securities and Exchange Surveillance Commission suspects that Olympus Corp.'s former executive vice president, Hisashi Mori, was the key player in the company's coverup of massive investment losses, sources said.

The Tokyo District Public Prosecutor's Office and the securities watchdog plan to question Mori, who is believed to have kept documents on the coverup scheme, and two other high-ranking Olympus officials on a voluntary basis after the third-party panel the firm appointed ends its investigation into the matter, the sources said.

Prosecutors also plan to question former Olympus President and Chairman Tsuyoshi Kikukawa and corporate auditor Hideo Yamada after the panel's probe ends. The prosecutor's office has also been in contact with creditor banks about Olympus' accounts, the sources said.
