KDDI Corp. will start a new shopping points incentive program to encourage its mobile phone subscribers to cut down on household electricity consumption during summer.

In the three-month program starting July 1, 10,000 KDDI subscribers selected by the company can win up to ¥1,000 worth of shopping points a month for new handsets and optional attachments if they reduce their electricity consumption by more than 15 percent from a year earlier.

The campaign will be conducted in Tokyo Electric Power Co.'s service area. Tepco will provide KDDI with the electricity consumption data.

KDDI will also seek 100 households for a similar one-year program.
