Yodobashi Camera Co. plans to make its outlet in Sendai one of its largest electronics stores, with a combined floor space of more than 20,000 sq. meters, possibly in 2014, company officials said Thursday.

The company initially planned to build a temporary store in November 2012 next to the existing outlet before completing the megastore in the largest city in the Tohoku region, but moved up the schedule to next April, expecting strong demand for home appliances as the city recovers from the March 11 earthquake and tsunami, they said.

It plans to refurbish the temporary building into the large store in a ¥30 billion project, the officials said. The current store has a floor space of 6,500 sq. meters.
