Semiconductor maker Renesas Electronics Corp. said Wednesday it will partially resume production at its plant in Hitachinaka, Ibaraki Prefecture, on June 1 — two weeks earlier than projected.

By initiating alternative production operations at other factories, Renesas is hoping to restore total prequake output of semiconductor parts by the end of October.

Renesas, which was hit hard by the March 11 quake, initially planned to resume production at the plant in July and then moved it forward to June 15. By further accelerating the schedule, the company will begin supplying semiconductor parts from the plant in late August.
