HITACHI, Ibaraki Pref. (Kyodo) Hitachi Ltd. intends to bolster production of thermal power plant equipment to meet greater demand from utilities affected by the March 11 disaster.

Hitachi said Monday it has already received inquiries about midsize gas turbines for thermal power generation from Tokyo Electric Power Co. and Tohoku Electric Power Co.

The company, whose production complex in Hitachi, Ibaraki Prefecture, also took a blow from the quake, organized a media tour of a turbine factory in the complex that resumed production late last month.

The capacity utilization ratio at the complex has returned to some 90 percent of its level before the quake, the company said.

Hitachi plans to boost production at the complex ahead of summer, when electricity demand will peak.
