An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.7 jolted northeastern Japan on Monday afternoon, the Meteorological Agency said.

The 2:48 p.m. quake measured 4 on the Japanese seismic scale of 7 in Hachinohe, Aomori Prefecture, and Hakodate, Hokkaido, as well as in other areas.

No tsunami warning was issued, and there were no immediate reports of injury.
