Nissan Motor Co. and alliance partner Renault SA are aiming to hold 20 percent of the global market for electric vehicles in 2020, according to President and Chief Executive Officer Carlos Ghosn.

In an interview at Nissan's head office in Yokohama, Ghosn said he expects the share of electric vehicles in the global automobile market to be 10 percent, and out of that 10 percent, "the minimum (market share) for us should be 20 percent."

Ghosn also said Nissan is "ready to prepare to bring down production by as much as 20 percent" after September, when government subsidies for fuel-efficient cars expire, and taking into consideration the strengthening of the yen versus the dollar.
