MIYAZAKI (Kyodo) Skynet Asia Airways Co. said Thursday it will start offering a discount one-way fare for foreign tourists from Dec. 1, enabling them to fly on all its eight domestic routes each at a flat rate of ¥10,000.

The Visit Japan fare is up to 65 percent lower than regular fares. It is the first time a Japanese airline has offered a discount fare aimed only at tourists from abroad, according to the Miyazaki-based budget airline.

Advance booking is not available for the discount fare, and tickets can be purchased only when there is a seat available at the airport of departure, the airline said.

Non-Japanese passport-holders entering Japan for sightseeing under the temporary visitor status, which allows a foreign tourist to stay for 90 days, would be eligible to buy the discount ticket.

Skynet Asia aims to draw more foreign tourists to Kyushu and Okinawa, where the airline flies.

The eight air routes operated by Skynet Asia are those connecting Tokyo's Haneda airport with airports in Nagasaki, Kumamoto, Miyazaki and Kagoshima prefectures, and routes connecting Naha airport in Okinawa with airports in the four prefectures.
