FUKUOKA (Kyodo) The Meteorological Agency issued tsunami warnings for Miyako and neighboring islands in Okinawa Prefecture following two earthquakes Monday.
There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage either from the 9:06 a.m. quake, which registered a preliminary magnitude of 6.8, or the 7:11 p.m. quake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.5.
The first tsunami warning was lifted at 10 a.m. and the second at 7:59 p.m.
There are numerous beach resorts on the islands that were in the tsunami warning zones.
