YOKOHAMA (Kyodo) An Argentine woman, a Peruvian man and a Japanese man were arrested on suspicion of filing false documents with a local authority in Kanagawa Prefecture to obtain Japanese nationality in advance for an unborn boy, police officials said Friday.

The Argentine mother and the Peruvian father, both 30, are suspected of submitting documents to the city of Atsugi in September and January falsely declaring their baby as a child of the woman and the Japanese man, 33. The trio were not named.

The ruse worked and the baby was given Japanese nationality, the officials said.

Japanese nationality is given to a child if the Japanese father acknowledges his paternity.
