Crown Prince Naruhito will visit Vietnam for a week in early February, the Imperial Household Agency announced Thursday.
It is not known whether stressed-out Crown Princess Masako will accompany him, it said.
The Vietnamese government invited the couple to visit because the two countries marked the 35th anniversary this year of the establishment of diplomatic ties.
