SAPPORO (Kyodo) About 300 religious representatives from more than 20 countries met Wednesday to discuss peace ahead of the Group of Eight summit next week in Toyako, Hokkaido.
The participants, including about 60 religious leaders representing Christianity, Judaism, Buddhism, Islam and Zoroastrianism, will craft peace proposals during the two-day conference that will be held at the Sapporo convention center.
They will discuss eradicating war and poverty as well as climate change and terrorism, and submit proposals to Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda, who will chair the G8 summit.
