Honda Motor Co. topped Japan's car sales ranking in May for the seventh straight month with its revamped Fit compact, an industry organization said Thursday.

Fit sales rose 89 percent in May from a year earlier to 11,461, the Japan Automobile Dealers Association said. Toyota Motor Corp.'s Corolla ranked second with 11,377 vehicles sold, and its Vitz took third spot with 8,078 sold.

With minicars included, Suzuki Motor Corp.'s Wagon R was Japan's best-selling car in May. The manufacturer sold 15,880 units of the model, a 4.8 percent decrease from a year earlier.
