A large sign fell off an office building in Tokyo's Nishishinjuku commercial district Tuesday, injuring a woman walking on the sidewalk, police said.

The 5-meter-wide, 1-meter-high sign for a first-floor Italian restaurant in Shinjuku Ward fell about 3 meters from the second floor of the building at around 11:30 a.m.

It struck the 28-year-old female office worker in the head, inflicting a 4-cm cut, police said.

Police opened an investigation into the possibility the accident was a case of professional negligence resulting in injury.
