NTT DoCoMo Inc. and convenience store chain FamilyMart Co. agreed Monday to capital and operational tieups that will allow the major mobile phone operator to buy a 3 percent equity stake in FamilyMart for about 9 billion yen, the companies said.

The alliance will enable DoCoMo users to make payments beginning July 10 at any of FamilyMart's some 7,000 outlets nationwide using their DoCoMo handsets equipped with the telecom operator's iD credit settlement services.
