Mitsubishi Estate Co. unveiled a new skyscraper to the media Tuesday described as a milestone in its redevelopment of the upscale Marunouchi business district in central Tokyo.

The Shin-Marunouchi Building, a 38-story office-retail complex, is projected to attract 20 million visitors and generate 22 billion yen in revenue a year after its official opening April 27, Mitsubishi Estate said.

At 198 meters, the structure, rebuilt on the site of the old Shin-Marunouchi Building, stands about 18 meters taller than the Marunouchi Building, another local landmark just across the street.

All of the office space from the 10th through 37th floors has been booked by JFE Holdings Inc., Nikko Citigroup Ltd. and other firms. Floors one through seven, as well as the first basement level, will accommodate 153 shops and restaurants.
