Former Ishikawajima-Harima Heavy Industries Co. President Kosaku Inaba, one-time head of the Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, died of heart failure Sunday. He was 82.

Tokyo-born Inaba joined Ishikawajima Shibaura Turbine Co. in 1946 after graduating from Tokyo Institute of Technology. The company merged with Ishikawajima-Shibaura Seiki Co. and Shibaura Sewing Machine Co. in 1962 and took its current name.

Inaba became president of Ishikawajima-Harima in 1983, after moving through the ranks of board director, managing director and then senior vice president. He was made chairman in 1995.

Inaba was highly active in the business community and in 1993 took the helm of the Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
