An Osaka Prefecture man arrested Sunday for allegedly cutting his mother's body into pieces and discarding them last year has admitted killing her and said he grilled part of the corpse, police said Monday.

Yaoki Osawa, 37, was arrested Monday on initial charges of damaging and discarding the body of his mother, Hiroko, police said.

They suspect Osawa grilled parts of the body to prevent them from giving off a smell when he took them out with the garbage.

Osawa, from Kawachinagano, was also quoted by police as saying he was upset with his mother, who was 57, for pestering him about getting a job. He remained jobless after his mother's death, living off her savings, the officials said.

He reportedly said he cut the body into pieces with a saw and a kitchen knife in their home late last May.

He allegedly threw part of the body away with the garbage, and put the rest, including the skull, in pails, encasing them in cement and leaving them in the yard of their home.

He said he used an electric hot plate to grill the body and then threw it away, according to the officials.

On why he handled his mother's corpse in such a manner, Osawa was quoted as saying, "I was at a loss about what to do with it."

Accompanied by a relative, Osawa gave himself up to police Saturday, saying he cut the body into pieces and put them in cement last year after he found his mother dead in their home. Police said he later confessed to killing her.

"When I came home last May, my mother was lying cold under the stairs. I did not know what to do. After leaving the body for one day, I cut it into pieces," Osawa initially said.
