YOKOHAMA (Kyodo) Incumbent Yokohama Mayor Hiroshi Nakada scored a landslide victory in Sunday's mayoral election against two challengers, the election board said Monday.

The 41-year-old Nakada won a second four-year term, receiving 834,815 votes, while Yasuo Matsukawa, a 64-year-old oceanographer, got 144,208 votes and former company employee Kenjiro Endo, 63, garnered 18,607.

Of about 2.9 million eligible voters, 35.30 percent cast ballots, down 4.05 points from the previous election.

Ballot counting was held a day after the election for the first time in 16 years as a measure to cut costs.
