HANOI (Kyodo) In their quest to survive ever-intensifying competition, Japanese investors joined the stampede into China -- until last year.

Recently, however, they appear to be increasingly turning their attention to other investment destinations as a string of China risks have come to the fore. Vietnam is high on the list of countries and territories winning their confidence.

Japanese direct investment in Vietnam in terms of registered capital amounted to $161.8 million in the first half of this year, a 3.3-fold rise from the corresponding period last year.
