A 104-year-old man and his 103-year-old wife want to be listed by the Guinness Book of World Records as the world's oldest married couple.

Yoichi and Kazono Gomi plan to apply for Guinness recognition, saying their combined age is two years more than that of the current record holders, Philadelphia residents Herbert, 105, and Magda Brown, 100.

The residents of Yokohama's Naka Ward realized they were older than the Browns when family members told them they had read on the Internet that the U.S. couple were recognized last month.

The Gomis, who are distant relatives from Nagano Prefecture, were married in 1933.

Yoichi worked for Tokyo's Chiyoda Ward office, while Kazono was a nurse and a midwife.
