OSAKA (Kyodo) Sanyo Electric Co. plans to triple production of air conditioners for commercial use in China in fiscal 2005, Sanyo officials said Tuesday.
The Osaka-based electronics maker will manufacture 90,000 units in the next fiscal year to meet growing Chinese demand, the officials said.
A Sanyo subsidiary in Dalian will also start developing the products, they said.
Last month, Sanyo agreed to tie up with Carrier Corp. of the United States, giving the world's largest air-conditioner maker exclusive rights to market absorption chillers manufactured by Sanyo in North America, South America and Europe.
Absorption chillers, which use water as a refrigerant, are a type of business-use air conditioner mainly used to indoor sports stadiums, airports and other large places, a main Sanyo product in the air conditioning market.
