Police arrested a 25-year-old Japanese man on Thursday in connection with the death of a 21-year-old Taiwanese tourist in the city of Fuji-Yoshida, Yamanashi Prefecture.

College student Hsiao Jen-chiao was found dead the same day after she was reported missing from her hotel near Mount Fuji.

Takahiro Watanabe, of Fuji-Yoshida, was arrested after he turned himself in to a police box in Shinjuku Ward, Tokyo, at around 1:30 p.m. and admitted to abandoning the woman's body. He has also made remarks suggesting he was involved in the murder, investigators said.

Hsiao left her hotel room in Fuji-Kawaguchiko, Yamanashi Prefecture, around 11 p.m. Monday after telling her brother, with whom she was traveling, she was going outside to make a phone call, the police said.
