OSAKA (Kyodo) Many firms are rushing to get involved in the "medical mall" business as the health-care industry is expected to boom in the 21st century.

These facilities, which provide various medical services at the same location, started appearing in Japan about five years ago. Construction firms, trading houses and many other businesses are tying to get a piece of the action.

"You can receive any kind of treatment in a short waiting time by going to one place," said an executive at Obayashi Corp., a major construction firm that plans to open two medical malls by the end of the year.
