The House of Representatives accepted Masanori Arai's resignation as a Diet member Monday, following his indictment on vote-buying charges.
Arai, 48, submitted a letter of resignation to the Lower House secretariat Saturday, two days after he was indicted by prosecutors.
He had earlier submitted a letter of resignation to the Liberal Democratic Party, which accepted it.
Arai, who represented the No. 8 district in Saitama Prefecture, owned up to his involvement in vote-buying activities during the Nov. 9 general election, according to investigative sources.
