NAGOYA (Kyodo) The Federation of All Toyota Workers Unions said Friday it will not seek pay-scale increases beyond standard yearly raises during this year's "shunto" spring labor-management wage talks.

This is the second straight year the federation has given up a unified demand for increases in the pay-scale. The federation organizes workers at Toyota Motor Corp., its subsidiaries and affiliated auto parts suppliers.

It will formally decide to give up the demand at a two-day central committee meeting in Tokyo beginning Friday, its officials said.

Although Toyota continues to post strong earnings, management is adamantly against pay-scale increases due to deflation in Japan and intensifying international competition, the officials said.

"Basically, we should always demand pay-scale increases," said Susumu Jinno, federation chairman. "But we have to make our decision taking into account such factors as social conditions and prices."
