A knife-wielding man stabbed a 46-year-old woman to death Tuesday and wounded her daughter at their home in a quiet residential district of Sakai, Osaka Prefecture, police said.
The assailant stabbed Kyoko Umei in the chest and abdomen at around 10:10 a.m. in the entrance of her home. She bled to death despite being taken to a hospital, the officials said.
Alerted by her mother's screams, the daughter, Kanna, ran to the entrance, where she was stabbed in the back. Kanna, 21, works in a boutique. Her injuries are not considered life-threatening.
Kanna has told investigators that she does not know the assailant.
