Three people have been arrested on suspicion of possessing about 148 kg of amphetamines at their homes in Tokyo, police said Thursday.

It is the first arrest this year in which Tokyo police have seized more than 100 kg of amphetamines in a single bust.

The drugs have a street value of about 8.8 billion yen, police said.

They said they were tipped off that the trio were dealing drugs.

All three are Chinese nationals, two of whom are apparently unemployed, they said.

The three allegedly smuggled the amphetamines from China and planned to sell them in Japan, the police said.
