A South Korean fugitive was arrested Monday on suspicion of fatally stabbing his older brother and then burning the body in their Kyoto apartment in September 2000.

Kil Yong Su, 27, reportedly admitted to police he fatally stabbed his brother, Kil Jong Su, a 35-year-old medical student. He said he then doused their apartment in Ukyo Ward with oil and set it on fire, according to police.

An autopsy of the charred victim found he had been stabbed in the back several times. Police plan to question Kil further to determine a motive.

He was taken into custody early Monday in Yahatanishi Ward, Kitakyushu, after he was spotted acting suspiciously and carrying a crowbar, and police learned an arrest warrant had been issued for him.

He had disappeared following the fire. Kyoto police suspected he committed the crime and placed him on a wanted list.

The victim arrived in Japan from South Korea in 1998 and was studying at Kyoto University's graduate school of medicine. Kil joined him about a year later.
