Former Japanese Ambassador to the Soviet Union Yasue Katori died of respiratory failure Saturday at his home in Tokyo, his family said Sunday. He was 81.
Katori, who was from Sendai, served as ambassador to the Soviet Union from 1984 to 1987 and later as president of the Japan Foundation, a Foreign Ministry affiliate that promotes international cultural exchanges.
