Convenience store chain Lawson Inc. said Tuesday that trading house Mitsubishi Corp. executive Takeshi Niinami will become its next president on May 29, replacing Kenji Fujiwara who will become a chairman the same day.

Niinami, 43 and a Harvard University graduate, is currently the manager of the trading house's division that oversees Lawson operations.

In preparation for assuming the presidency, Niinami will on Wednesday assume the post of an adviser to Lawson, Lawson said in a news release.

The current chairman of Lawson, Koji Wada, will become a special adviser on May 29, it said.

In February last year, Daiei Inc. ceded its position as Lawson's top shareholder to Mitsubishi through an equity sale.
