In light of the spate of anthrax mailings in the United States and to guard against similar terrorism in Japan, the government will host a seminar in Tokyo next week for researchers from the nation's regional sanitation offices.
The seminar on how to test for anthrax will be held at the National Institute of Infectious Diseases next Thursday, said an official of the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare's Tuberculosis and Infectious Diseases Control Division.
While some prefectures are capable of testing for anthrax, others either lack the knowledge, the equipment, or both, the official said Thursday.
