The government will cover the entire cost of incinerating the scrap meat and bones of cows under its comprehensive ban on meat-and-bone meal, the farm ministry said Tuesday.

Takehiko Endo, senior vice minister for agriculture, forestry and fisheries, told a news conference that local governments will be compensated by local tax allocations from the central government.

The ban requires that supplies of MBM and of scrap meat and bone destined to be processed into the suspect feed be destroyed by fire.
