Japan will provide logistic support for the United States and the multinational force it is mustering "within the framework of the Constitution," Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi said Monday in the Diet.

But he did not go into details on the nature of the support following the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks in the U.S.

Although Yukio Hatoyama, leader of the Democratic Party of Japan, pressed him to provide details of a bill that would enable Japan to provide logistic support, such as precisely where the Self-Defense Forces will be allowed to operate, Koizumi kept the matter vague.
