Labor ministers from member economies of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum will gather here this weekend to discuss ways to better prepare workers for rapidly advancing information technology.

They are expected to examine changes in the workplace and in the skills workers need as a result of IT development.

They will also discuss ways to educate workers with regard to those changes, as well as means to narrow the "digital divide" between those who have IT knowledge and those who do not.

The labor ministers' meeting is one of the nine sector-based ministerial meetings among the 21 Asia-Pacific Rim countries in their efforts to expand regional cooperation aimed at sustainable economic growth. The ministers will issue a joint statement at the end of their two-day meeting Sunday.
