OSAKA -- Planes from Guam and Saipan began arriving at Kansai International Airport on Saturday following the resumption of flights to and from the United States.

Although airlines returned to normal operations on Saturday, substantial delays are expected for some time, airline operators said.

Some flights arrived at Narita airport, in Chiba Prefecture, on Friday carrying a number of Japanese travelers who had been stranded in various cities across the U.S. in the aftermath of Tuesday's terrorist attacks in New York and Washington.
