Nissan Motor Co. and Renault SA said Thursday they will launch a joint organization later this month to study ways to integrate their information systems as they move toward joint worldwide automotive operations.

The six-member organization, Renault-Nissan IS/IT Office (RNIO), will have offices in Paris and Tokyo, each staffed with three people. RNIO will work to make the two companies' information systems more effective and service-oriented, Nissan and Renault said.

RNIO will be responsible for handling transversal strategy and planning as well as budget and performance measurement, the two companies said.

The creation of RNIO is a step toward the future integration in the information service and technology area under their alliance, they said, adding its scope may be widened according to future business needs.

Nissan is 36.8 percent owned by the French automaker.
