Dr. Kiyosu Taniguchi, 40, has joined a group of international experts in an effort to contain an outbreak of Ebola fever in Gulu district, northern Uganda.

A native of Mie Prefecture, Taniguchi arrived in Gulu, 360 km north of the capital, Kampala, last week, joining five other experts with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention at the Gulu Ebola Task Force.

The Ugandan government announced the Ebola outbreak Oct. 15.

The CDC-World Health Organization laboratory at Lacor Hospital in Gulu has been testing specimens from victims and suspected victims for the past two weeks. According to Tony Sanchez, a researcher at the laboratory on Oct. 23, many specimens had tested positive for the Ebola virus.
