MIYAZAKI — The Group of Eight foreign ministers kicked off a two-day conference here on Wednesday to seek ways to deal with regional conflicts and tackle other challenges in the international political arena.

Highlighted by measures to formulate a comprehensive approach to conflict prevention, their discussions were expected to cover nuclear nonproliferation, arms control and reduction, antiterrorism measures and United Nations reforms.

In addition, the G8 — Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia and the United States — was expected to discuss regional affairs, including the situation on the Korean Peninsula, the Middle East, Kosovo, Indonesia and Africa in separate discussions later in the day.
