A 35-year-old police officer stationed in Gifu is likely to be arrested after lifting up the skirt of a high school girl, it was learned Saturday.

Investigators are expected to file charges against the officer for suspected violation of the prefecture's ordinance to prevent troublesome acts, including certain acts of obscenity.

According to investigators, the police officer approached the student in a parking lot after finishing his rounds on Thursday. He reportedly became angry when the girl rebuffed his advances and reacted by lifting up her skirt.

The officer has admitted the charges, investigators said.

Prefectural police inspectors issued a statement saying, "We apologize deeply. We will take strict measures after examining the results of the investigation."
