The Lebanese government decided Wednesday to deport five Japanese Red Army members to a third country after they are released from prison on Tuesday, government officials said.

The decision effectively means Lebanon has rejected Japan's request for the four men and one woman to be extradited to Japan. The destination and the date of deportation of the five were not immediately known.

The five are Kozo Okamoto, 52, Masao Adachi, 60, Kazuo Tohira, 47, Haruo Wako, 51, and Mariko Yamamoto, 59.

During a regular Cabinet meeting Wednesday, the Lebanese government was reportedly expected to discuss a proposal to deport them to a third country, allowing them to stay only temporarily in Lebanon.
