The government on Tuesday appointed Kunisada Kume, ambassador to Hungary, as ambassador to Germany, succeeding Haruhiko Shibuya.
Kume, 61, a University of Tokyo graduate, entered the foreign service in 1961 and consecutively served in Berlin as consul general and chief of protocol. He has been ambassador to Hungary since August 1997.
