Amid a steady rise in the popularity of authentic Japanese ramen across Europe, establishments dedicated to the famed noodle dish are popping up in the Swiss city of Geneva, home to international bodies such as the United Nations.

In Switzerland's second most populous city, where nearly half the residents are foreign nationals, largely from Europe, locals can choose from at least four recently opened ramen shops in the city's central district.

Proprietors include not only native Japanese, but also Swiss nationals who spent time in Japan and later set out to master the rigorous, yet highly adaptable, dish for their home market.
