On Dec. 31, the Park Hyatt Tokyo is offering a night of elegance at its New York Grill & Bar on the 52nd floor, allowing you to bring the year to a close with breathtaking views of the Tokyo skyline.

The special New Year’s Eve Dinner menu features carpaccio using scallops from Sanriku, Miyagi Prefecture, and Matsuzaka sirloin steak from Mie Prefecture. The dishes are cooked to perfection by Austrian chef Stefan Resch, who joined the hotel this autumn. The meal will be accompanied by a glass of fruity and silky-smooth Louis Roederer Cristal champagne.

There’s a five-dish course (¥28,000 per person) from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and a six-dish course (¥42,000 per person) from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. For guests at the later dinner there will be a countdown to 2011.

The New York Bar will celebrate New Year’s Eve from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. An exciting stage performance featuring the sultry voice of jazz singer Diane Witherspoon will accompany special canapes, Louis Roederer Cristal champagne and a countdown to 2011. The price is ¥12,000 per person.

The dinner and bar celebration are open to anyone aged 20 and above. Reservations are required.

Turn-of-the-year menus

The Royal Park Hotel in Nihonbashi, Tokyo, will serve special New Year’s celebratory menus from Jan. 1 to 4.

At the French restaurant Palazzo on the 20th floor, special courses will feature caviar and first-class Iberian pork. Lunch courses are ¥8,400 to ¥10,500 and dinner courses are ¥12,600 to ¥16,800 per person.

The teppan-yaki (grilled meat) restaurant Sumida will hold an all-you-can-eat 2011 New Year’s Teppan-yaki Buffet, including lobster, king crab, beef fillet, sirloin and boneless short rib,all cooked in front of guests by the hotel’s chef. The price is ¥7,350 per person.

In the banquet room, there will be a New Year’s Bustle Family Buffet at which guests can try various Japanese, Chinese and Western dishes, while enjoying shishimai (traditional Chinese lion dance) performances.

The Japanese restaurant Genjikoh will serve toshikoshi soba (year crossing noodles) and osechi (traditional New Year’s food), making it the perfect stop on the way to or from hatsumode (New Year’s shrine visits).

New lounge at Granvia Osaka

The Hotel Granvia Osaka’s first-floor lobby lounge reopened on Dec. 12 after recent renovations.

Looking to satisfy customer needs in the changing environment around Osaka Station and in the Umeda area, the lounge has been enlarged to 210 sq. meters (a 40 percent increase). More seats have also been added, bringing the total to 130, and a large-scale cafe has been introduced to provide a relaxing space. In addition, there is direct access from the lounge to the station.

The lobby lounge’s new color scheme matches the dark-wood browns and tones of the reception area, and the partition between the two sections has been removed, creating a whole floor unity that adds to the relaxing ambience.

The new lounge is filled with the rich aroma of coffee from the open kitchen at its center, which offers seasonal original-blend coffees and French press coffee, Ronnefeldt teas from Germany, original mixed juices and various desserts.

It is the perfect place for a quiet cup of coffee after shopping, getting together with friends or a business meeting.
