The newly opened Amanis Cafe is indeed another world, compared to its surroundings in Roppongi. It is huge, occupying almost half of the Roi Building's sub-basement level. And it is sumptuous -- with thick carpeting and wood paneling throughout.

Beyond the palm-lined entrance is a huge dining room, but with the lighting down low and all seats upholstered, it feels more like a lounge than a restaurant. In the center stands an enormous island bar -- a structure that dominates the interior and, with all four sides open, offers maximum coverage. With huge potted plants placed squarely on each corner of the bar, it also offers maximum privacy -- even from the other people sitting at there. Just sitting there, I felt pampered the way you do when you sit in the lobby of a five-star hotel.

Beyond the dining room is a game room featuring a pool table and two electronic darts machines. This seemed a bit tacky compared to the rest of the place, but it is where most people seem to go as soon as they have bought a beer (and/or a cigar from the humidor).
