The approval rate for Prime Minister Fumio Kishida's Cabinet fell 4.2 percentage points from a month before to 26.6% in August, down for the third consecutive month, a Jiji survey showed Thursday.

The public support rate stood under the key threshold of 30%, below which a Cabinet is said to be in the "danger zone," for the first time in five months.

The dismal approval rate was close to the Kishida administration's record low of 26.5% marked in January.
