"Picture For Children"

Adachi Museum of Art boasts a large collection of dōga (illustrations and paintings created for children) by six creators active during the Showa Era (1926-89) — Yoshio Hayashi, Toshio Suzuki, Takeo Takei, Shiro Kawakami, Yoshisuke Kurosaki and Bunshu Iguchi.

These artists, who published their work in children's magazines, shared a belief that paintings for children should also be art. They also founded an association for dōga artists that hosted exhibitions and contributed to the development of the artforms.

This exhibition showcases 50 illustrations and paintings for children, selected from the museum's collection, including many by Yoshio Hayashi and Toshio Suzuki; till Sept. 11.
