Jess (Josh Hutcherson), an introverted boy with a talent for drawing, bonds with Leslie (Anna Sophia Robb), a free-spirited girl who has just moved in next door. They imagine that a nearby forest is a magical realm and, dubbing the place Terabithia, they conjure up dragonfly warriors, trolls and other beasts. In the secret world they have built they escape from reality — bullies at school, Jess's struggle with a stern father, etc. Keeping CG to a minimum, this is a refreshing addition to the kids' fantasy genre.
