Anadorei's eardrum-puncturing screamfest of a farewell album, "This is the Beginning of the End," is little different from 2002's debut "Pussy Cannibal Holocaust." A compilation featuring new material, the brutally short tracks are tossed out of the stereo like hand grenades of feedback-smeared noise.
This mercilessly deafening atonal racket is not for everyone, and "Chainsaw guitar and throat" Erieza Royal, "Bulldozer Bass" Maymie Royal and "Machinegun Drum" Gabriella Royal didn't make too many friends in Japan's cliquey underground -- they were too glamorous for the dour noise scene, and too noisy for the garage scene.
Style-wise there were gimmicks: Erieza sometimes played shows semi-naked, wearing a strap-on dildo, and once this writer saw polaroids pinned on a livehouse wall of her using the sex toy on a male slave. But judged solely on the music, Anadorei (Asshole Slave) were one of Japan's most explosive rock bands before Erieza split them in 2004 just as they started to draw big crowds.
Each member will perform at a launch party at Shin-Okubo's Earthdom livehouse ([03] 3205-4469) on March 19, but separately, not as Anadorei. As the album's jacket says: "Our Mission is Terminated/Thank you and Goodbye/Anadorei."
